What are the rules of Fasting and Abstinence during Lent

Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics in good health 14 years old and older on Ash Wednesday and on all the Fridays of Lent. Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday by all Catholics in good health who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those who are bound by this may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one’s needs but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. The special Paschal fast, as well as abstinence, are prescribed for Good Friday and encouraged for Holy Saturday.

The holy season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 18. Both Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, April 3, are days of abstinence from meat for everyone over the age of 14. They are also fast days (one full meal and two small meals, with nothing to eat between meals) for adults ages 18-59. All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat for those over 14 years of age.

Cuales son las reglas del Ayuno y Abstinencia durante la Cuaresma

La abstinencia de carne debe ser observada por todos los católicos con buena salud mayores de 14 años el Miércoles de Ceniza y todos los viernes de Cuaresma. El ayuno debe ser observado el Miércoles de Ceniza por todos los católicos en buen estado de salud que tengan 18 años de edad pero aún no hayan cumplido los 59. Aquellos que están obligados por esto pueden tomar solo una comida completa. Se permiten dos comidas más pequeñas si es necesario para mantener la fuerza de acuerdo con las necesidades de uno, pero nose permite comer alimentos sólidos entre comidas. El ayuno pascual especial, así como la abstinencia, se prescriben para el Viernes Santo y se recomiendan para el Sábado Santo.

El tiempo santo de Cuaresma comienza el Miércoles de Ceniza, el 18 de Febrero. Tanto el Miércoles de Ceniza y el Viernes Santo, el 3 de abril, son días de abstinencia de carne para todos los mayores de 14 años. También son días de ayuno (una comida completa y dos comidas pequeñas, sin comer nada entre comidas) para los adultos de 18 a 59 años de edad. Todos los viernes de Cuaresma son días de abstinencia de carne para los mayores de 14 años.
