Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the "sacraments of Christian initiation," whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For:
by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed." CCC # 1285
The two year preparation program for the Sacrament of Confirmation is offered in English and Spanish; and is open to candidates who are at least entering sixth grade who have received the sacraments of Baptism and Communion. Confirmations are performed during Holy Week.
Registration takes place during the months of April and May with the following requirements:
- Must be a member of the Parish and complete the application form.
- Provide a copy of the Birth Certificate, Baptism Certificate and First Communion Certificate.
- Upon starting classes (in the month of September) the candidate must be between 7th and 10th grade.
- If the candidate is in 11th or 12th grade of high school or over 18 years old, they may join the RCIA group (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). These courses are designed especially for young adults.
All students preparing to be confirmed should regularly attend Sunday Mass and Holy days with their families. Classes are held on Sunday mornings at various times.
